BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan Women's Basketball will be on the road for the second-consecutive game when they travel to Athens to face Concord on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The Bobcats beat Concord last month in Buckhannon 70-58, in a game where
Shelby Genes scored 28 points and hit six three-pointers. CU will face off with Bluefield State tonight at 5:30 p.m. before squaring off with the Bobcats on Wednesday.
CONCORD MOUNTAIN LIONS
The Mountain Lions enter (9-14) overall and (7-11) in MEC play. Concord fell to West Liberty on the road 87-70 on Saturday.Â
CU ranks 3
rd in the conference in Team Rebounds (40.4 RPG) and Offensive Rebounds (14.0 ORPG). Concord has the 5
th best Scoring Defense, allowing 72.3 PPG. The Mountain Lions do struggle shooting it from deep, ranking 11
th in Team 3PFG% (28%) and 3PFGs Made (4.2 AVG/G).
Abbie Smith leads Concord in scoring at 13.0 PPG. Smith ranks 7
th in the league in rebounding, pulling down 7.8 RPG. Smith is also at the top of the league in FG%, sitting 2
nd at 56%. Jaisah Smith is the second leading scorer on the team, averaging 11.9 PPG. Jaisah Smith leads the team in assists with 2.6 APG.
Head Coach Tesla Southcott is in her first season as the leader of the program after serving as an assistant coach for recently-retired Kenny Osborne. Since being on the bench at Concord as an assistant and now the Head Coach, CU has posted a 95-64 record.
WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN BOBCATS
The Bobcats enter (4-17) overall and (3-15) in MEC play. Wesleyan lost at West Virginia State on Saturday 112-58.
Giving up 112 to WVSU raised Wesleyan's Scoring Defense average, now allowing 69.6 PPG (4
th MEC). The Bobcats stay active on the offensive boards, ranking 5
th at 13.0 ORPG.
Emma Witt has two-straight games of 20+ points, upping her average above 15 points at 15.1 PPG.
Daveona Hatchell is coming off a near double-double performance with 14 points and eight rebounds at WVSU, putting her averages at 8.5 PPG and 6.8 RPG.
