Preview: Bobcats And Golden Eagles Ready For Wednesday Matchup

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan Women's Basketball will be home on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. to take on the University of Charleston inside the Rockefeller Center. UC has won the previous 10 meetings between the two, including a 71-51 win on Jan. 4 against the Bobcats in the capital city.

CHARLESTON GOLDEN EAGLES
The Golden Eagles enter (17-5) overall and (12-4) in MEC play. Charleston is coming off a 87-77 loss at West Liberty on Saturday, a game UC led by as much as 18 in the 1st Half.

UC is the top ranked Scoring Defense in the league, only allowing 65.4 PPG. The Golden Eagles are a Top-3 shooting team, ranking 3rd in the Team FG% (43%) and 2nd in Team 3PFG% (37%). Charleston has struggled on the boards, ranking 7th in Team Rebounds (37.7 RPG) and Team Defensive Rebounds (25.5 RPG).

Trinity Palacio ranks 9th in the MEC in scoring and leads UC at 16.1 PPG. Palacio is also a great passer, sitting at 5th in assists and leading the team at 3.8 APG. Dakota Reeves is 7th in the country and 1st in the MEC in 3PFG%, shooting 45% from behind the arc. Reeves is the leading rebounder for Charleston, grabbing 5.6 RPG.

Tianni Kelly is in her third season at the helm for UC. Kelly has won consecutive MEC Tournament Championships and made consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Atlantic Regional Championship and Elite Eight appearance in the covid-shortened 2021 season and Atlantic Region Runner-Up in 2022, losing to eventual National Champion Glenville State. Kelly was also named MEC Women's Sports Coach of the Year, MEC Women's Basketball Coach of the Year, and Furfari WV College Coach of the Year in 2021. Kelly previously spent time as an assistant coach at Valdosta State.

WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN BOBCATS
The Bobcats enter (4-15) overall and (3-13) in MEC play. Wesleyan last played on Saturday at Alderson Broaddus, losing 63-57.

The defense for the Bobcats has been the strong point all season, ranking 3rd in the MEC in Scoring Defense at 67.9 PPG. Wesleyan has also been extremely active on the offensive boards, pulling down 12.7 Offensive RPG (4th MEC).

Emma Witt was held to just six points at AB, tying her second-lowest point total of the season and dropping her average to 14.5 PPG. Daveona Hatchell is still a Top-15 rebounder in the league, pulling down 6.5 RPG. Shelby Genes scored 18 points and knocked down four three-pointers to bring her average up to 8.9 PPG.
