Box Score PHILIPPI, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan Women's Lacrosse team picked up their first win of the season this evening at Alderson Broaddus 17-14. The Bobcats put up a season-high 44 shots and forced 14 Battler turnovers in the win.
The Battlers netted the first goal almost seven minutes into the game on a free position shot.
Raveena Navalgund and
Kaitlyn Canby went back-to-back in twenty seconds to take the lead. Canby scored again just a few minutes later and
Raveena Navalgund was assisted by
Reese Hutson to finish the scoring for the quarter. The Bobcats were able to take a 4-2 lead going into 2
nd Quarter.
Canby started the quarter out hot just like she did the opening quarter. WVWC used her 3
rd goal of the game to take a three-goal lead but the Battlers answered with three consecutive goals to tie the game up at 5. Makenzie Lewellyn found the the back of the net before the half ended, giving the Bobcats a 6-5 lead at halftime.
The two teams traded goals to kick off the 2
nd Half until
Kaitlyn Canby scored to create a small cushion at 9-7. AB then tied the game at 10 with two goals within 15 seconds. Three-straight goals from Makenzie Lewellyn,
Yuka Mizuide and
Gaidian Adams gave Wesleyan a 13-10 lead heading into the closing quarter.
Goals by
Kaitlyn Canby and
Makenzi Lewellyn opened up the biggest lead of the game in the 4
th Quarter at 15-10. The Battlers couldn't get any closer than three goals in the final quarter. WVWC was able to hold on, securing their first win of the season 17-14.
Terri Nashe led scorers with six goals and Felicia Young added three goals for the Battlers. Lilly Parsons had both assists as well. Taylor Young added to her season save total with 18 saves on the day.
Kaitlyn Canby scored a team-high five goals in the win with
Yuka Mizuide netting four.
Makenzi Lewellyn and
Raveena Navalgund had three goals each to aid the offense and
Gabriella Gomez saved 12 shots.
